Powell may ‘start small’ with fiber-optics deal

Powell, OH, is "considering an agreement that would give the city its first fiber connection." The city’s operations committee reviewed a proposal from Consolidated Electric Cooperative "that would see Powell spending $81,650 to connect to an existing fiber-optic network for city use." Adding fiber lines could help the city meet a number of goals, "such as connect itself to local networks; attract businesses that require higher rates of connectivity; and turn the fiber into a utility it offers to the community, which would allow it to recoup costs of its establishment."
